LT4All: The Minister of Culture of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Mr. Eric Thill, inaugurated the UNESCO conference on language technologies

On February 24, the Minister of Culture, Eric Thill, participated as a keynote speaker at the inauguration of the UNESCO conference on Language Technologies for All (LT4All). The second edition of this international conference was held from February 24 to 26 in Paris and had as its central theme “Advancing Humanism through Language Technologies”. The event focuses on supporting small language communities and multilingualism through digital technologies.

In his speech, Eric Thill stressed that "Luxembourg considers its linguistic diversity to be a real strength. Thanks to digital advances, the Luxembourgish language has experienced a tremendous development." He also affirmed that the government is "ready to share good practices in multilingualism and multiculturalism, as well as the digital tools developed by Luxembourg with other language communities around the world and to actively contribute to international efforts." In addition, the Minister highlighted the development of digital tools facilitating language learning, inclusion and integration.

In particular, the following applications are currently available for learning the Luxembourgish language online:

LLO.LU - Léier Lëtzebuergesch Online, Luxembourgish language learning platform ;

Sproochmaschinn.lu, the new application developed by the Centre for the Luxembourgish Language (Zenter fir d'Lëtzebuerger Sprooch - ZLS), that offers two essential features for digital language processing: speech recognition (effortlessly transcribe your speech into written text) and speech synthesis (easily convert written text into speech). With its other applications, LOD.lu (lëtzebuerger online dictionnaire) and Spellchecker.lu, the ZLS provides you with all the necessary tools to learn the Luxembourgish language.

For anyone who wants to know more, the Embassy of Luxembourg participates every year in the European Day of Languages in Moscow. In cooperation with the Centre for the Luxembourgish Language (Zenter fir d'Lëtzebuerger Sprooch – ZLS) and the National Institute of Languages ​​of Luxembourg (Institut national des langues Luxembourg (INLL)), presentations are held on the specificities of the Luxembourg language and the different applications that can help in learning the language.
