European language day 2026

On 26 September 2026, the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Moscow took part in the European Day of Languages organized within the premises of the Alexandre Dumas French Lycée as part of its efforts to promote the Luxembourgish language.

The programme of events included presentations, lectures, master classes, language lessons, quizzes and a book swap, as well as film screenings, exhibitions and concerts. More than 20 European countries were represented at the festival by cultural centres and embassies. Participants had the opportunity to visit stands providing information on the culture, educational projects and language courses of various countries.

The Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in collaboration with the Centre for the Luxembourgish Language (Zenter fir d’Lëtzebuerger Sprooch) and the National Institute of Languages of Luxembourg (Institut National des Langues Luxembourg), presented to participants the importance of multilingualism in Luxembourg, as well as the history and linguistic features of the Luxembourgish language, as part of both online and offline programmes. Visitors were also able to attend a screening of short films in French and take part in Speak Dating, where they had the opportunity to put their language skills into practice by discussing any topic of interest in several languages with the Ambassador of Luxembourg to the Russian Federation, Ms Jeanne Crauser, and the Deputy Head of Mission, Ms Charline Vandermuntert Dispa.

This year’s event was attended by almost 3000 people and confirms once again the great enthusiasm of the participants.
