Luxembourg was elected to UNESCO’s Executive Board
On November 7, 2025, Luxembourg was elected to UNESCO’s Executive Board, marking a proud return twenty years after its last mandate.
Earlier this week, on November 4–5, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Xavier Bettel represented Luxembourg at the 43rd General Conference of UNESCO in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where he presented Luxembourg’s vision and priorities.
In his address, Minister Bettel reaffirmed that Luxembourg’s mandate will be guided by a commitment to dialogue, unity, and collective action to address global challenges. Luxembourg will focus on key areas including education, culture, multilingualism, information, communication, and science.
During his visit, the Minister also held bilateral talks with the outgoing Director of UNESCO Mrs Audrey Azoulay, the Director-General designate of UNESCO Mr Khaled el-Enany, the deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mrs Marianna Betsa, as well as the deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Mr Bakhromjon Aloyev. Ambassador Reisen, co-accredited to Uzbekistan since November 2024 with residence in Moscow, accompanied the minister during his visit.
