European Film Festival 2023

The European Film Festival will be held online from November 1 to 15, 2023 and will present in its program the most notable films from EU countries over the past few years. The opening of the festival is timed to the birthday of the European Union – on November 1, 1993, the Maastricht Treaty entered into force, which marked the beginning of the economic and political unification of European states.

Under the auspices of the European Union Representative Office in Russia, the festival has been held for more than 15 years and for the second time in an online format - in 2021, 27 films were shown in 32 days, which gathered more than 30 thousand viewers from 80 cities in front of the screens. This year it was decided to continue this unifying experience.

The slogan of this year's festival – "Cinema unites!" – emphasizes the unity of cultures and interests.

All films will be shown in the original language with Russian subtitles. They will be available to watch for free and without registration.

The film is the winner of the Cannes Film Festival in the category “Special look” (2019).

Description:

The drama "And the Fire will come" raises the problem of loneliness of a person who is inside a small community. The main character of the film, Amador, gets out of prison after serving time for arson. He returns to his hometown, hidden in the mountains of Galicia, to live with his mother and three cows. Life goes on calmly, following the rhythm of nature. Until the night when the strongest fire devastates the region. The catastrophe that has occurred reveals the accumulated tension between Amador and his neighbors and tears off the mask of people without prejudice from the latter, exposing an almost primal fear of an independent loner.
