Luxembourg elected for a non-permanent seat at the Secruity Council of the United Nations for 2013-2014
| The Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg was elected as a non-permanent member of the Security Council of the United Nations in 2013-2014. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jean Asselborn, participated at the elections held at the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York on October 18th. Luxembourg, a member of the regional group of Western European and Other States group (WEOG) was elected in the 2nd round by 131 votes. The Grand-Duchy, a founding member of the United Nations, has applied in March 2001 for this seat of 10 non-permanent countries for the Security Council of the United Nations Today, Luxembourg comes 2nd among the countries that exceed the United Nations target of 0.7 % of Gross National Income in official development aid. In 2010, Luxembourg’s ODA reached 1.09 % of GNI, and Luxembourg’s authorities are determined to maintain this effort |
