European elections on May 25th, 2014
An information campaign concerning the registration of non-Luxembourgers on the electoral lists within the framework of the upcoming European elections in 2014 has been launched in Luxembourg.
The non-Luxembourg citizens of a country from the European Union residing in the Grand Duchy have the right to choose to vote in Luxembourg and to elect the Luxembourg representatives to the European Parliament.
The European elections will be held on May 25th, 2014.
The non-Luxembourg citizens of a country from the European Union residing in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg may:
- either elect MEPs of their country of origin (in this case they should apply to the competent authorities of their country of origin or their consulate),
- or elect MEPs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
If they choose to vote in Luxembourg, they should be registered on the electoral lists by February 27th, 2014. If until now it was necessary to reside in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg for two years before being allowed to participate in European elections, the residence requirement has been removed by the vote of the law dated December 17th, 2013 amending the existing electoral law.
To register as a voter for the upcoming European elections it will be sufficient to present oneself at the city administration with a valid identity card and to fill in the relevant application form.
