A Delegation from the Luxembourg National Archives and the Research and Documentation Centre on the Conscripted during World War II, visited Moscow and Tambov, April 16th -20th, 2012

 During their stay in Moscow, the Director of the National Archives of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, Mrs Josée Kirps, as well as the Director of the “Centre de documentation et de recherche sur l’enrolement forcé”, Mr Steve Kayser, held various meetings with the Director of the Russian Federal Archives, Mr Andrey Artizov, the President of the ELAR Corporation, Mr. Sergey Balandyuk as well as with the Director of the National Military Archives of the Russian Federation, Mr Vladimir Kouzelenkov.

During their meeting, the delegations exchanged documents relating to the presence of Luxembourg Soldiers in Tambov and Kirsanov that have been forcibly conscripted to the German army during the Second World War as well as lists of deportees and prisoners of war from the former URSS forced to work in the mines and industries in Luxembourg during its occupation during the Second World War.  

On April 18th, 2012, Mr Steve Kayser held meetings in Tambov with the Deputy Governor, Mr Alexander Alabitchev, the Mayor of Tambov, Mr Alexey Kondratiev as well as with the Head of the Department of international relations, Mr Oleg Kadykov and visited the Cemetery St Peter and Paul in Tambov. In Moscow, the delegation also met with the Director of the Museum of the Great Patriotic War, Mr. Vladimir Zabarovskiy, in order to discuss the bilateral cooperation.

During their meeting in Sotchi on August 24th, 2010, the Prime Minister of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker, and the President of the Russian Federation, Mr. Dmitry Medvedev, agreed to create a monument in Tambov to commemorate the memory of the conscripted soldiers from Luxembourg who died in captivity in Tambov and Kirsanov. The Monument is planned to be inaugurated in September 2012.
