The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Russian Federation are celebrating this year the 125th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, established on March 7, 1891. On that occasion, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, sent a congratulatory message to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov.

Returning to a series of key events in the history of bilateral relations, the Minister Jean Asselborn particularly remind that "for Luxembourg Russia remains a friendly country with which we want to cooperate to jointly contribute to peace and stability of this continent that we share". The Minister Jean Asselborn is convinced that in front of the challenges of the XXI-st  century "our bilateral relations 125 years old provide a solid basis of trust to maintain a look full of hope to the future".

A meeting between the two ministers is planned in the course of this year to commemorate the 125th anniversary.
